{Athletics Day~2014}

Yesterday was Athletics Day at the kids school.

There's Fiona getting ready for the sprint.
 That hat!
We fixed it up for the next race.

 Always smiling!
She is probably the youngest child in her grade and she's really petite but she has spirit and zip 10 times her size.

Clay helped me cheer all the kids on.
Even though his morning nap was delayed he was so good.
Gotta love baby #3, they just go with the flow.

Clay and I did our very best to watch both Reed and Fiona do their field events but they were going on simultaneously on opposite sides of the oval. We also missed about 40 minutes of events in the morning (they arrived at the field just after 9 and leave at 1.30).

I was able to watch Reed do the high jump...

 He's such a natural.
He cleared it no problem.

Throwing the discus..
While the kids ate lunch a few were asked to come up for an interview. Something I really like about this school is the frequency of public speaking opportunities. It becomes very normal for them to get up in front of an audience and speak. Reed was asked which events he did and which one was his favorite and why.  His favorite was the hurdles because he could do two things at once, run and jump.  The best thing about that statement is last year it was his least favorite. Gosh this child is amazing!

Here's Miss Fiona doing the hurdles...

she has a great stride
Last year Reed surprised himself with how fast he was.  I think remembering how well he did gave him a lot more confidence going into this year.  He was actually excited for Athletics Day this year, which was the complete opposite of the previous year.

 Here he is behind everyone.
You can see he hasn't found his stride yet- maybe a little too nosy as to how everyone else was doing?
 Then he finds it..

Off he goes and he ended up winning the race!

I really would love for him to do Little Athletics because I know he'd be so good at it but he doesn't want to.  All I can do is keep asking but I won't insist. They have to do a couple of extra activities per term- swim lessons is always one because I don't give an option when it comes to being a strong swimmer. Right now Cello is the other but I sure do hold out hope that he'll give Little Athletics a go one day.

Little Clay eventually took a nice long nap.
When he woke up he picked flowers.

The last event was the house relays.  Last year I gave some details about the house colors- you can click here to see last years Athletics Carnival.

We couldn't have asked for a better day.  It wasn't too hot or cold
