Snow In July- Ryan's Birthday Experience

Image
It's been well over 2 years since our family has seen snow.  After 30-something years of snowy winters I have been absolutely fine with this.  The kids, on the other hand, have been itching for some snow play.  Because it's a rare occasion in Ryan's lifetime to have his July birthday in winter we decided his Birthday Experience would be a day in the snow. So, earlier this week we let the kids ditch school and we headed through the temperate rainforest into the mountains. The kids reported it was the best holiday ever!  They giggled and loved the snow just like native Australians. Ryan and I... well it was a very laughable experience for us.  We saw the reality of it all.  It was a hill with a thin layer of slushy ice.  At the top was a PVC pipe shooting out tiny ice cubes into a heap.  That was it. I've seen better conditions at a Walmart parking lot in Massachusetts & Quebec. That's what we paid over forty bucks for.  Was it w...

I knew when Ryan took his new position that we would finally look forward to and enjoy weekends all together . I had no idea how absolutely fabulous it would be, nor, did I know how quickly a weekend could fly by. Today we spent a lot of time playing in the snowy wood. Racing to Daddy Our kids are on thin ice I have so many more fun pictures from today to share BUT Tomorrow ############################################# They said,"We have big bums" I said " Okay, let me take a picture" What I adore most about this picture is how they are looking at one another. Sweet dreams ...love the Woodlands

The winters of my childhood were long long seasons.  We lived in three places- the school, the church and the skating rink- but our real life was on the skating rink. This passage can be found on the Canadian five dollar bill.  Our children are finding the joys of winter here in Quebec and I too have rediscovered these same joys through them.  We all sat and watched out our window as a motorcycles, four-wheelers and snowmobiles made circles on  the river in front of the house.    The biggest event of the day was both Reed and Fiona ice skating for the first time.

Snuggle Fest 2010

Ry before he went to a party last night. November is Grow a Moustache for prostate cancer awareness month. It's December so for the party Ry had a sweet penciled mustache.      Snow fell all day long. It was soft and gentle.  First thing this morning we set out to play.   The remainder of the day was pretty much a snuggle fest. Life is good!

Cabin Fever

Image
Seven years ago I thought I had evaded winter weather like this when I moved from Massachusetts to Maryland.    And I had, until this winter. Add caption Last Saturday it snowed 10 inches.  Sunday was warm and not a flake fell. Monday School was canceled. Ryan Laughed and asked what made me even think to check the status of the school. The reason is, Last year after just predictions of snow I had brought Reed to school only to find we were the only jokers there. Tuesday there was a 2 hour delay, which means no school for Reed as an a.m. preschooler. That night it snowed and inch or so.   Wednesday , no school again, despite the roadways being clear. Each day that passed I could see Reed's personality changing as he suffered from cabin fever. A little too rough with Fiona, a little too fresh towards me = a little too much time in Time-out.  Alas, Thursday Reed finally had school and his wonderful disposition return...
